Self-Care Destination in the Time of Covid

Kenya and I literally got to get away at Getaway House up in Suches, Georgia – just under 2 hours outside of the city, and right in the middle of the Chattahoochee National Forrest. It was absolutely beautiful! The cabin was spotless and the bed was comfy. We had a view of a small lake through the trees and it was so quiet! All we heard was the rain and the summer bug symphony. The rain kept us inside for most of our stay, but honestly the sitting still and rest was exactly what we needed!

On the flip side, if I’m honest I’m a total scaredy-cat! So the huge picture window took some getting used to at night – especially after driving past countless Trump 2020 signs and pickup trucks with confederate flags on the way up. Why can’t we get away from that shit!?

Thankfully we were fine, and we weren’t alone – there was another Black couple staying at the cabin next to ours, and a dozen Black cyclists enjoying the windy mountain roads. It was beautiful to see. But still, it would be nice to be able to get away and not be attacked by racist propaganda.

All in all, it was a fantastic trip and we will definitely be back! We are even considering hosting a retreat up there sometime soon (once we all feel a bit safe with covid). In the meantime, we encourage you to get out and enjoy Getaway House for yourself!
